Sam had warned her a thousand times,[[but she never listened.]]Katie and Sam lived on a farm in Ohio, with seven horses, one dog, one cat, three kittens, three cows, two pigs and twelve spotted chickens. Katie wanted to take care of their farm and all the animals while Sam and their mom went out of town [[to a soccer tournament in Washington D.C.]] or [[but they decided to stay home.]]Their mom didn't think she was responsible enough to take care of the farm. After a lot of arguing their mom said yes. An hour after they left, [[three chickens escaped their pen]] or [[she decided to go horse back riding for the first time ever.]] Katie had to chase the chickens everywhere and in all the chaos the pig pen gate broke. The pigs swam in the pond and [[got stuck on a log]] or [[they got all muddy.]]Katie got on her favorite horse Willie, and [[rounded up the chickens.]]When she got the chickens back in their coop, she went to the tool shed and got plywood, nails, and a hammer. She fixed the gate to the pig pen and started to [[work on ways to save the pigs.]]Katie decided the best way to rescue the pigs was to swim up to the log and bring them back one at a time. When all was resolved she did the farm chores and [[got a nice glass of lemonade.]]When her mom and brother returned the next day, they were welcomed with a surprise - a clean farm!Katie was so bummed, she really wanted to take care of the animals all by herself. She complained to her mom,"why did you have to stay? You ruined my plan to take care of the animals all by myself!""Fine,"her mom replied,"if you want to do something by yourself, [[go milk the cows.]]Katie chose her favorite horse that she thought looked the biggest. The horse's name was Willie. Willie was a dark chocolate colored horse with a red-brown streak in between his eyes. He had a black mane and tail. She then struggled to [[put the saddle on.]]Katie had never milked the cows before and was having a little trouble. They had three cows, a brown one, a black one, and white and black spotted one. She started milking the brown one when it kicked over its bucket of milk and ran into the field. Luckly the field was fenced off, [[but the gate was open]] or [[so she decides to milk one of the other cows.]]Katie and her shepard dog Leo, rounded up the filthy pigs, and one at a time cleaned off the disgusting mud. She did not stop scrubbing them until they were [[squeaky clean.]]Once Katie mounted Willie she started riding in the gated field, but got anxious for adventure and went out the back gate. Everything was going fantastically up until they stopped for lunch. She wasn't paying attention to Willie until she heard a whinny. A rabbit had darted out of the forest and startled Willie, [[making him flee]] or [[so she quickly calmed him down and rode him into the forest.]]Katie grabbed a lasso and saddled up her favorite horse Willie and told Sam to get on his horse Wrangler. Sam followed her and they [[went after the renagade cow.]]To Katies shock the cow started peeing in the bucket. She went to go grab a new bucket when the black cow stopped peeing and [[started eating hay.]]Katie chased Willie as far as she could before she ran out of breath. She remembered something her mom had told her long ago,"a horse will come back to what it considers its home." She wearily walked back to the farm regretting not [[paying more attention to Willie.]] She kept the pigs in the barn until she fixed the fence. She was so exhausted after the pig fiasco, she totally [[forgot about the wayward chickens!]]Katie was worried. She told Willie,"I don't recognize these trees. I think we are lost. Do you know the [[way back home?]] With a sigh she put on he sheep skin boots and called for the chickens by bribing them with corn. Once the chickens were safely in their coop, she did the farm chores and [[got a nice glass of lemonade.]]To her surprise Willie did come back! He was waiting in the barn when she got there. She quietly whispered to Willie,"lets just keep this [[little event to ourselves."]]Katie put Willie in his stall with some hay, and finally got to relax after a chaotic day.Stories say that horses always know their way back home so Katie gave it a shot. Willie bolted out of the woods and somehow ended up by the back gate to the barn. Then she quietly whispered to Willie,"lets just keep this [[little event to ourselves."]]For some bizzare reason she could not get the cow to budge from its eating position. Finally after what felt like a long time trying to get at least one of the cows to produce milk without a mess, [[she called for Sam.]]Her big brother Sam helped hold down each cow while Katie milked it.They finally finished milking all three cows and [[were exhausted.]]Katie and Sam then fell asleep in the pile of hay.Finaaly those worthless hours of their mom's lasso lessons were going to get put to good use. They each lassoed one horn of the cow and led it back to the barn. It was getting late and they [[were exhausted.]]
